JOE'S MEMORIES:
This wasn't a very pleasant gig for Crazy Horse. Neil Young had split with them and, for this show,
they were opening for the J. Geils Band as well as promoting their new album, "Crazy Horse".
The weather was another issue for this show, too. There had been a steady rain all day and the snow
in the area had turned to a mess of slush. The band's equipment van had become stuck down the road from
the University Of Maine gym, so they were delayed in setting up and had to use some of the J. Geils Band's
equipment. Naturally, this delayed the soundcheck and the crowd was left to stand outside, in the pouring rain,
for about an hour. By the time the doors were opened, eveyone was in a pretty annoyed state.
Not only was everyone soaked, but it was "general admission", so you also had to squeeze through the one set
of open doors, then pick your spot to sit on the floor (not in chairs, but on the floor).
Crazy Horse finally made it to the stage and did a 30 minute, seven song set.
They had to take some time to tune up and familiarize themselves with the "borrowed" equipment,
but they did a nice performance, with great harmonies. They also got in a couple of "between song"
comments that made it clear that they were holding a grudge against Neil at the time.
It was an interesting performance by a band that was to become a major force in music.

Many many thanks to Joe
