DimeTravel 069 ::: Thanks to the original taper & trader! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Seeing as it was just Halloween, perhaps this will go down OK. It should be enjoyed by many the garage rocker & psychedelic voyager. Whatta ya mean, you collect 80s garage rock & neo-psych & you don't have anything by The Creeping Pumpkins!? Time to rectify the situation. They had a track, "Better Off Without You", on "A Steamin' Stew of Mutant Spew" (The Deadly Spawn Compilation). There's a great live version here. The Pumpkins apparently hailed from Pompton Lakes, NJ, which I guess if you dropped enough might lead to the "Pompton Pumpkins"... CREEPING PUMPKINS seemed to have had a very ltd. edition LP (a 100 only?) called "In Their Cups". I ain't never seen a copy. It's interesting that they were already around in 1985 & managed to stay together at least til the end of the decade, as WV has some 1989 concert posters with the band. in fact, some place their album as having been released circa 1994, which would give them at least a 10 year life.
www.cheepskatesmovie.com site which has lots of great info on The Dive scene & many of the bands around it says the Pumpkins were, "an off-shoot of the Thursday night film series 'The Gore Gazette Presents'".
http://www.furious.com/perfect/ooloo2.html has some info which includes noting that the band The Adults changed into Creeping Pumpkins, then the Gillmen (after many line-up changes). Dave Weckerman also played with Mr. Baxter (who had no releases). This also connects the band to The Willies (who had no releases) and then The Trypes (which headed onto the Feelies). Then John Fay guests on here so we have our Tryfles connection and then most likely they can be linked to many other bands as well, tho' I couldn't find the definitive Creeping Pumpkins family tree - obviously a gross oversight on the part of Pete Frame. Very possibly blackmonk or some other DIMER form the scene will come thru for us with more definitive info. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
Do whatever you want with it except sell it, 'cause that ain't cool!
