ALD-Soundboard recording
(a John Tsalikes recording, from the Jim Fiesler collection)

In memory of John Tsalikes, who passed away much too soon 5 years ago (Oct. 10, 2003) from a heart attack. According to Jim Fiesler, John was the mastermind behind these ALD recordings and served as Jim's mentor. But more than that, John was a great friend and a very, very generous guy...a taper for decades...no family or girlfriend, just the music. Thank you, John...you're probably taping that big jam session up there right now. Rest In Peace, friend.

Note: The show's second set begins with Track 112; the second set was too long to fit by itself on the second CD

Lineage: ALD/SBD > D8 (listen box--from the parking lot) DAT > CDR

Note:
Per the etree database, I noticed that an AUD version of this show has been circulated. As such, this will hopefully be an upgrade for many of you.

Additional notes:
* Show was recorded out-of-phase; show was phase-corrected (to be "in-phase") via Cool Edit Pro
* Deleted 28 seconds of applause before the start of the 1st track and faded in the opening applause (both using Nero's wave editor)
* Re-tracked show by combining in Nero, splitting with CD Wave
* The show was recorded well below peak volume, and both sets were apparently broadcast/recorded at different volumes. As such, set #1 (Tracks 101-111) was increased by 9 dB whereas set #2 (Tracks 112-213) were raised only 5 dB. Volume adjustments were done in Nero's wave editor.

ALD (assisted listening device) soundboard recordings are usually knocked for their "thin" sound quality (high amount of treble, not enough bass), but I don't think that's a real issue here at all. As such, Jim's files have been unaltered for sound quality (i.e., no EQ performed)--if some of you prefer to have more bass in your ALD recordings, I'll let you do your own EQ work since it then becomes a matter of personal taste. As for me, I think the show sounds great, as-is.

Jim Fiesler notes:
(regarding his ALD-SBD shows): "ALDs (fm-sbd) perfect captures in most or all cases..however somewhat lacking bass..more than regular fm..The best place to rec these shows was from the park lot..! the signal was the best there..!"

If you decide to download this show, won't you please consider posting a comment on the show's board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run.

And won't you please consider thanking Jim for this mighty fine show?
