Total Time ::: 56:12

::: VG+ AUD but after pretty steady remastering. Check samples for fear or audio defibrillation.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. Some distortion inherent in the recording. #10 has bit of high end fluctuation 2-3 mins in.
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the somewhat better Mk2 remaster with lite EQ & lite NR. The Mk1 NO EQorNR remaster may be found elsewhere.
::: Bill was Curved Air headlining with "Trespass"-era Genesis opening. Showtime 8m. Tix only 62 pence!
::: Ticket or ad: http://www.genesis-movement.org/php/displaypicture.php?dir=../tickets/1971-03-13&file=Colchester%2013.3.71.jpg
::: The only LP out at the time was their 1st, "Air Conditioning", recorded July 1970 & released November 1970.
::: "Second Album" probably not yet recorded (no songs here)&was issued 1971-09-09 (4 months after this gig).
::: "Thinking On the Floor"never released in the 70s & 1st appeared on "BBC Live In Concert"CD in '95 (I believe).
::: #08 "Young Mother" is brand new & intro'd as "Why Must I?". By the time it led off "Second Album" it had changed names.
::: I do not have the Genesis set & don't know if it was taped by this source.
::: Curved Air toured the UK in March '71. They played at least 11 dates + a BBC Sunday Concert.
::: Perhaps YOU have an upgrade of this or some more uncirculated Curved Air to share? It would be groovy.

Recording Information ::: unknown mono recording equipment -> master mono tape -> unknown analog tape generations -> unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2017-04-07 ::: unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10Hz/16bit WAV file).

Remastering 2020-08-29 ::: wav -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, 01-23mins +1%, 23-32mins +1.3%, 32-end 0.0% pitch (speed) fixes with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, very light differential equalisation & 3 low-end notches, a little noise reduction to remove some hiss & lower hum] (NOTE: Mono two channel tape & roughtly the same frequency response in both, so after lining up channels, combined them to save on work. PLEASE NOTE, this is NOT recommended unless the channels have the same frequency response & it does limit what can be done later but in this case made things much steadier - & is also the reason for the small file size!) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. Freed 2020-09-xx.

Line-up::: Darryl Way – violin, keyboards, backing vocals // Sonja Kristina – vocals // Francis Monkman – keyboards, guitar // Ian Eyre – electric bass // Barry de Souza (R.I.P 2009) – drums.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 665 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! Sincere thanks to whomever uploads this for me. ::: Corrections welcome ::: We are extremely fortunate to have a decent selection of vintage live Curved Air but a number of the recordings are simply lacking in quality, which is a shame. We haven't seen the end of them yet, there are more out there, but sadly time is running out. An innovative, dynamic, original & interesting band that should have left a bigger mark. Lots of tasty versions of songs at this gig - "Vivaldi" has massive amounts of experimental feedback - most enjoyable! Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
