::: VG AUD but at least she's steady! Check samples for auditory analysis.
::: Warts: Repaired some dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. Some ongoing level of distortion, somewhat distant & muddy. Bit of mike rustle but only between songs & cleaned up most of it. Tape cut between #06+07. #07 has cut about 1:45 before end - not sure how much is missing (& after song it's end of set as band says "Good night").
::: BILL: 1971-04-30 & 1971-05-01 Emerson Lake&Palmer/Edgar Winter's White Trash/Curved Air.
::: 2 shows per night 8:00pm + 11:30pm. Tix 3.50/4.50/5.50. Unknown if this is the Early or Late show.
::: Tix stubs & program scan: www.concerts.fandom.com/wiki/April_30-May_1,_1971_Fillmore_East,_New_York_City,_NY
::: The only LP out at the time was their 1st, "Air Conditioning", recorded Jul 1970 & released in November 1970.
::: "Second Album" probably not yet recorded (no songs here)&was issued 1971-09-09 (4 months after this gig).
::: "Thinking On the Floor" not released in the 70s&1st appeared on "BBC Live In Concert" CD in '95 (I believe).
::: Not sure if the taper taped the other artists, nor if I have copies. Someday we'll see.
::: Perhaps YOU have the other sets or an upgrade or some more uncirculated Curved Air to share?

Recording Information ::: unknown mono recording equipment -> master mono tape -> unknown analog tape generations -> unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2017-04-07 ::: unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10Hz/16bit WAV file).

Remastering 2020-08-29 ::: wav -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -0.6% pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation or noise reduction] (NOTE: Mono two channel tape & roughtly the same frequency response in both, so after lining up channels, combined them to save on work. PLEASE NOTE, this is NOT recommended unless the channels have the same frequency response & it does limit what can be done later but in this case made things much steadier) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. Freed 2020-09-xx.

Line-up::: Darryl Way – violin, keyboards, backing vocals // Sonja Kristina – vocals // Francis Monkman – keyboards, guitar // Ian Eyre – electric bass // Barry de Souza (R.I.P 2009) – drums.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 663 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! Sincere thanks to whomever uploads this for me. ::: Corrections welcome ::: Certainly NOT ENOUGH Curved Air in the world. There must be lots more out there. Can't imagine everyone was hip to who this band was at the Fillmore at the time but maybe I'm wrong - great billing combination on the part of Bill Graham. VERY cool jamming in "Thinking On the Floor"- 2nd 1/2 of the song is really stellar. Check out Sonja's first scream in "Propositions" & the playing after it is INTENSE - great bass & violin interplay - spectacular & very tight. Don't miss the end of "Vivaldi"! The band is making the most of their opening spot & I would hazard a guess it might be their first USA tour. This is a lovely set musically but 'tis a shame it's so short & the quality is what it is. I tried an EQ version but really you can just add some treble, nothing revolutionary can be done that I could tell - I could clear it up a bit but it brought out the distortion. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
