NOTES:

This was a free gig put on by the city of Potsdam, which is just outside the southeast corner of Berlin. Also on the lineup were MIA and Six, who I didn't go for, and Santana, who my recorder ended up disliking as much as I did (it shut itself off when I bent over at the end to pick up my bag and failed to save the file - sorry). But since it was an open air, come as you are kinda gig, there were lots of families, lots of talkers, and as such, this is far from a perfect recording or an award winner for two reasons.

First, the talkers. I fixed them here, mostly, by removing the R channel and duplicating the left. Cardioids or not, the people to my right would not shut up. I was fairly aligned with a speaker column, but still too far off to block them out completely. So it goes.

Second, since security was basically nonexistent and I kept my earbuds in for the sake of not being blasted, I used the first two songs to manually set levels, so there are some jumps and distortions there (including a drop in She Bop) which aren't present once I got things set up.

As for the performance itself, Lauper was in a good mood, apologising all the time for not speaking German, making jokes, and working it proper. The encore of Lili Marleen and True Colors was a capella, and the set was largely country western standards and the hits at the end - her standard fare. And fare which proves that she was not just the look and the accent (my mother hated both) which people paid attention to in the 80's.
