Dan Hicks (solo and backed by pre-taped instrumentals)
January 7, 1977 (1977-01-07)
My Father's Place
Roslyn, New York

This one probably should be skipped if you'd prefer to remember Dan by his better material. In his book, Dan called this 2 night run the low point of his life. That being said, he did make it through the set "somewhat" and the music does have its moments (maybe). See more details below.

Lineage: the Grape's Uher CR134 with AKG A200D mic. > Maxell UD C90 (no Dolby) cassette master.
Transfer (grner1 - 2022-07-08): Nakamichi Dragon > Sound Devices MixPre-6 II @ 32bit (float) / 96kHz > Pro Tools (speed/pitch adjust, normalize, minor seamless fixes, tracking and down-sampling - no EQ or noise reduction) > WAV files > xACT (Flac level 8 files, tagged with sector boundaries verified for the 16/44.1 files). Thanks to Professor Goody for help with the speed/pitch.

"Grape notes": This is being shared in both 24/96 and 16/44.1 versions for those who may care about one or the other or both, though I might question why anyone would want to hear this recording more than once or twice at whatever resolution you choose!

Other input from a previous 1st gen. share of this set:
Description excerpt: "I've struggled with seeding this show or just leaving it buried in my collection. I never attended a show like this but heard about them. It's not the way I'll remember Mr Hicks but it is a piece of history. If you're not into conflict then don't download. The opening banter with the crowd is almost 10 min. Dan was drunk, Dan was angry. Very unprofessional."

From a comment on that torrent: "I bet this is the regrettable performance at My Father's Place that Dan wrote about in his autobiography. In his book he didn't actually remember the venue, but mentioned the owner Eppy by name and describesd it as being one of his lowest points in life."

Condensed from other comments from that torrent by davmar77: "The club sacked Dan during the first night of his two night stand due his condition. The band I worked for got a call to sub for him the next night. Dan showed up and made up with Eppy and said he'd play for free. he was incredibly drunk and abusive and left the stage after going at it with audience members and staff. The band I worked for did a couple of songs with him. This appears to be the first night. My recording was Jan. 8, the second night. From what we heard he was as drunk as the 1st night. When we arrived to load in, he was passed out in the club across three chairs. It was quite an evening."
