Dave Mason with Johnne Sambataro
Live at The Wildwood Spring Resort
October 20, 2012
Steelville, MO
Lineage: TASCAM STPRO>Denecke AD20>(optical)>NJB3>Audacity(Hard limit,amplify)>CDWAve>FLAC
Location: Balcony, 25ft DC Stage
Notes: The location may see strange but the Wildwood Resort is a very unusual place. The balcony is a open overlook of the floor below allowing viewing the "stage" from three sides. We were directly across from Dave with an unobstructed view--I considered it ideal.
Outside of that, the resort is a gem in the hills of MO and should be considered for a special opportunity to see entertainment in a "living room concert" environment. There was a full crowd for this show, about 220. What makes this venue special is that everyone who makes the trip to the Lodge is there for one reason - to see that evenings entertainment. This creates an environment of common interest that creates friends and conversation amongst total strangers. Quite a unique event.
In this case we were there to see Dave Mason play an acoustic set, something I considered a rare opportunity. I had seen Dave many years earlier with his band and looked forward to this show for months. He was accompanied by Johnne Sambataro who has played with Dave since 1999 (I believe that is correct). Johnne is the former lead singer from Firefall. He played some great guitar this night and provided backing vocals to Dave. BTW, Dave was in fine voice this night. At 66 years of age I would have expected some raspy notes from Dave but, I thought, he carried his melodies very well--even at the extremes.
If you enjoy Dave in any of his previous efforts (Traffic, for instance) you will hear some of it here. He also plays some songs previously never played publically. I hope you enjoy this and encourage you to check the Wildwoods website for the concert schedule and information. A truly unique place to visit!
Enjoy!
