Comments:
Source 1:
The recording is complete, incl. the spoken intro and the full Ode to Joy intro.
Compared to source 2 the speed was approx. 4 % slower. I decided to adjust the speed to source 2 as this tape seems to be a lower gen.
The tape has a lot of hiss which had to be removed as much as possible. More hiss at low levels which partly is still present. I left it because otherwise too much of the sound would be lost.
The recording has more bass than source 2.
The taper was standing closer to some people which were clapping and sometimes talking (the taper himself?)
Sound level on left channel lower than right channel (adjusted)
Some small cuts between tracks.
Source 2:
The sound of this is much better than that of source 1. Very nice and balanced sound, only some bass missing.
During I Feel Free there is a cut in the middle which was halfway fixed (already made in a former remaster) with a passage of lower sound quality. I decided to cut this out and replace the whole passage (approx. 15 seconds) with source 1.
At the end I made some level adjustments with the completed matrix and added more bass.
Even if the sound of source 2 is already very good the matrix is even better as it gives the recording more depth and a really well balanced sound. I would rate the result now as one of the best recordings from 72 (of course after Santa Monica).
