The Open Aire Faire was a two day music festival only held for two years in 1977 and 1978. Bromberg played all four days but this is the only day we have found a recording of. The promoter of the show is still a friend of mine and he recently told me the faire only lasted two years because it was a nightmare logisticly and therefore unprofitable. These were also the first Bromberg shows I can remember going to. You can hear me somewhere deep in the encore clapping.
The tape was recorded by an unknown soundman from Sundown Sound, the company providing sound for this West Coast tour. It came to me from the former owner, thanks David C. It was already on CD at that point. I have been withholding this because I have hopes of laying my hands on the original tapes and doing a better transfer. If I do ever get my hands on them, I'll do a new upload. Its too good a show to keep to myself any longer.
Like many festival shows, the first couple of tracks here are kinda rough since they generally were the soundcheck for the soundman. Check out "Stealin'" (always one of my favorites), and everything after the first encore break.
This recording also has possibly the only song that David has ever played that is NOT included in The Dangerman Compilation. When I talked to David about "The Hills of Isle au Haut" he could only remembering ever playing it live once, and here it is. Forgive me Candleman if I have lied, I've yet to memorize that massive compilation of yours.
As with all of my work uploaded here please don't distribute this recording for personnal gain or in inferior formats (no MPEG's), thanks. And always thanks to Candleman for all the help, support and friendship he has given me over the years.
