Tapers Notes:

David Bromberg is an enigma. Wildly active in the 70's in
San Francisco where I saw him with great frequency at the Great
American Music Hall, he stopped touring, took up violin making
in Chicago, and now runs a violin making studio in Wilmington,
Delaware. He rarely tours, and when he does so, only tours with
a quartet, and sometimes "The Angel Band," a bluegrass group of
his wife's. For a week in February, he got the old "Big Band"
together and did a series of concerts along the Eastern Seaboard.
So we packed up the mikes, and off we went.

For those of you unfamiliar with his music, I can't think of anyone
who wouldn't like something here. He plays the Blues, switches to
Dixieland, then to Bluegrass, through in some Celtic instrumentals,
and did some slide guitar. The Birchmere is a wide, pleasant venue
near Washington, DC. This was a sell out. There were no less
than 200 lined up outside in the freezing cold 3 hours before
the concert even started. So the crowd noise was expected. I did
my best post to limit that, but obviously there are remnants. But
it is a typical Schoeps recording, with a wide dynamic range.

I have a short set of the Angel Band, but did not elect to upload it,
Let me know if you guys want it shared. Regards, Scooter --February, 2011
