OldNeumanntapr Notes:
This one was a true community effort. Thanks to Rick for the recording, and thanks to Flying -M- for his expertise with his 'Mad Scientist' computer programs to sprinkle just the right amount of 'fairy dust' for the post production. Thanks also to Dave for his good up-front photos. The Fremont (movie) Theater, built in 1942, is truly an art-deco architectural marvel of a by-gone time. Before the current management removed the first few rows of seats to add the stage, the theater held just under 1,000. The interior walls are curved and the room has excellent acoustics. The Fremont no longer shows films, except to host the annual SLO Film Festival, and now resembles the former Fillmore East in New York (which was also once a movie theater.) However, Unlike the Fillmore East, the Fremont has no balcony. Dave tells me that there is a distinct possibility that, in the future, sedate acts such as David Bromberg might not be booked at the Fremont because those shows are not selling well. He said that this performance played to a house that was only one third full. We older folk are being passed over to market to the young Cal Poly crowd and the acts that they follow, which usually sell out.
