TheCommish notes:
My buddy Sammy and I paid $20 each for advance tickets so that we could get a glimpse of David Jo in a semi-rare, acoustic setting in the somewhat-intimate confines of the Brighton Bar.

David and Brian Koonin started the show minutes after midnight and finished just before 1:30am. Since we were standing from the minute we entered the Brighton (around 10:00pm), I have to admit Sammy and I were both pretty worn out during the latter half of the show. Especially during the many obscure cover songs. I have to admit I was hoping for more songs that I knew; as it were, I probably knew about 1/3 of the songs.

On the plus side, I think my recording (done with my trusty Zoom in the ol' short pocket) came out surprisingly well. There were some VIP/table seats directly in front of the stage, so Sammy and I stood right behind the seated folks with a straight shot at both the stage and the speaker stacks. However, there are some points during the show (for example, during "Big City") where the people behind us were more interested in their own conversations than in the performers up on stage. Which I don't get, frankly, seeing that they probably paid $20 or more to get into the place. Why not go to FRIDAY'S if you want to talk the whole time? They don't charge a cover!

Anyway, I had more enjoyment listening to the show after the fact via my recording than I did live in the bar. This is probably because I don't have to stand for 3+ hours while doing so, and it's not necessarily 1:00am in the morning, either.

There were two opening bands. Thankfully we missed a good portion of the first band's (the F-bombers') set. However, the second band--Frankenstein 3000--really impressed both of us and fortunately I got a nice recording of their 39-minute set. I already shared it here on DIME if you're interested:

Lineage:
Zoom H2 (120 degree mic pattern) > WAV (onto SD card) > Nero wave editor (trimming and fades on end tracks, deleted dead space**) > Audacity (added +6dB to right channel for balance) > > Cool Edit Pro (+10dB volume boost, hard limited to -0.1dB) > Nero wave editor (addl volume boost where needed) > FLAC Frontend (sb-aligned) > FLAC

** the original recording ran roughly 80:40 (i.e., slightly longer than an 80-minute CD); I was able to delete about 45 seconds of between-song dead space in order to get under 80 minutes (enabling the show to fit onto a single 80-minute CD); no music or banter from David is missing--just less audience chatter.

If you like this torrent, won't you please take a moment to post a comment on the board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run.
