boombox's notes november 2007:

An excellent show, held in a beautiful 150-seater converted chapel, this must
rank as one of my favourite gigs ever. David and Banana clearly appreciated the
venue's excellent acoustics and intimate surroundings and gave a varied,
well-polished set. Perhaps the last track is a little long, but check out the
reception they got AFTER they finished as people still waited, hoping for more -
this venue would certainly welcome them back.

I arrived early enough to get a good seat on the balcony, just off centre, in
order to video the show. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, the whole gig was nearly
spoiled by a group of drunken idiots who arrived halfway through the first set
and proceeded to sit down 10 feet away from me. They constantly talked and chatted
and moaned that there wasn't enough 'Yeehaaah!' for an act with a banjo, really
stamped their feet hard and were generally obnoxious. (They were in fact so loud,
you can hear them clearly on the SBD recording!) As a result, early in the second
set, having nearly ruined 'Darkness, Darkness' for me, in an effort to preserve at
least some of my camera audio, I moved to the back of the balcony and filmed a
couple of songs from there, before returning to my seat, when they left to go back
to the bar.

My move to avoid the idiots became all the more galling, when, out of the blue, the
local promoter emailed me a few weeks later offering me a SBD recording. This had
turned out beautifully - as the acoustics are so good there, the guys were distance
miked from about 4'-5', resulting in lots of the ambience being captured.
Unfortunately, he had missed the beginning of the first set, but between the camera
audio and martinb's source, I could fill it in pretty well. Aside from them setting
up and the introduction of 'Drifting..', which is 100% audience matrix, for the rest
of the show there is about an 90%-10% mix of the SBD and the AUD sources. You notice
the sound improve radically, but I just couldn't smooth out the transition any more
than I did.

Hope you enjoy this recording, but please don't sell it!!!
