David Vest
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 6, 2007

Recorded from KBOO FM again this year. KBOO is an all volunteer radio station that has been broadcasting this festival for 20 years. There will be some inherrent reception problems and some drops in the music from time to time, but I have tried to "fix" all where possible.

Recorded from FM > Sharp MD > HD > Wave Editor > FLAC > you

This is one of the best shows at the festival. Great boogie piano and blues. Most of the members from the Paul deLay Band and the Texas Horns too.
Enjoy the tunes, twofthrs

"I could go all around the world and never find another piano player like David Vest."
- Jimmy T99 Nelson

"This is rock and roll for grown-ups. Dangerous, fast, addictive."
- CounterPunch

"David Vest is the real thing."
- OPB's "Art Beat"

A review of David Vest's most recent appearance at the festival described him as "a true delight." This year, he's celebrating 50 years in the blues, and reuniting with members of the Paul deLay Band behind a new CD.

David is known for his down-home songwriting style, his high-energy piano playing, and his unmistakable authenticity: he played his first gig in 1957, performed with Big Joe Turner in the early '60s, toured with Jimmy T99 Nelson and Lavelle White, and received the "laying on of hands" from such piano legends as Floyd Dixon, Katie Webster and Big Walter the Thunderbird.

The new CD, "The Last of the Best: Live Recordings by the Paul deLay Band," on Portland's Criminal Records, features David on piano throughout and singing lead vocal on several tracks, including the house-wrecking closer.

David's own CDs on Trillium Records include "Way Down Here" and "Serve Me Right to Shuffle." He was voted the CBA's Best Keyboard Player in 2003, and an OPB "Art Beat" show on him was re-broadcast by popular demand.
