Notes From Steve
I Made This Trip To Portland,Me. Having Taped Billy Idol & The Cult In Worcester,Ma. The Night Before.
Started A New Job At 6 Am On The 16Th So Needless To Say I Was Tired. Most Of The Concerts I Taped I Went To Alone So There Would Be No Incessant Yakkers/Distractions Wrecking My Capture.

I Never Drank While Recording, Just Smoked My Trusty 3 Ft. 'G Graphics' Bong In My '77 Chevy Caprice Classic Coupe On The Way To The Show & Kept A Fat Bone In My Pocket For Later Consumption. Drinking Is An Invitation To Disaster On A Recording So I Avoided That Altogether.

This Show Was General Admission On The Floor (Perfect) & The People In Portland Were Always Affable. It Was A Great Venue To See A Show At & I Saw Many There, I Positioned Myself Dead-Center Directly Under The Split In The Overhead P.A.

You Will Hear A Guy I Was Talking To Before The Show Ask Me "Highway Star...Right,Highway Star"? & I Just Say "Yup" As The Band Starts Into The Song. This Dude Had No Idea I Was Recording & I Wanted To Keep It That Way. He Must Have Thought I Was 'Snubbing' Him When I Just Completely Went Into My Recording 'Trance-Like' State For The Rest Of The Show.

Having Seen Ritchie W/Dio In Springfield,Ma. In May 1978 Opening For Foghat & Headlining Over The Scorpions In Nov. 1979 In Worcester,Ma. I Was A Rabid Ritchie Fan. This Performance Was Not Up To His Usual 'Pull Out All The Stops' Maniacal Fretwork But It Was Decent.

This Show Is A Jewel Due To The Only Live Recording Ever Of 'Mad Dog', As A Matter Of Fact There Is A Bootleg Labelled 'Mad Dog' In Circulation That Erroneously States The Location As Portland,Or.

The Equipment I Used Was My Workhorse Sony D6 & My Trusty Aiwa Cm-30A Tied On A String Around My Neck Centered On My Chest Under A Thin Concert T-Shirt.

I Taped Deep Purple Once Before In Worcester,Ma. At The Centrum On 03Mar85 11 Day's After Being Honorably Discharged From The U.S.Coast Guard In Miami Beach,Fl. That Show Was W/My 1St Recorder A Hand-Held Panasonic Hs-J400 Which Was Inferior To My Sony.

Please Enjoy This Master Tape That I've Been Cradling Like A Baby For Over 27 Years Now.......
