I once heard a taper say, there is not bad seat in the house to see a concert at the Melody Tent and there's not a good one to tape it. The acoustics are what you would expect from a tent. Then add a rotating stage to constantly change the mix. It's a sound engineer's nightmare. Guitars rise and fall, the drummers are way up front as they pass below the mics, then fade back.

There were two other tapers at the show, set up in the only area designated for taping at outer edge of the tent. Rather than add a third, we collectively decided I should try from up front. I owe a very big thank you to the elderly usher who told me it was OK to mount mics on the mast next to the stage, as long as I did not tell anyone who gave me permission. After I climbed down from the stage the house manager said, "You can't do that, but since it's done, leave them.

The result was a very nice recording, which is especially nice for this venue.

This is my second time seeing the "new" band. Although I confess I still prefer the two individual bands, I am liking it better. Love Has Something Else to Say and Blind Crippled and Crazy were my hands-down favorites. I get another listen next week.
