RECORDING NOTES:
Overall, I'm quite happy with these recordings. Soundcheck is a bit rougher than the show itself, though (more on that in a bit). For the show itself, I stood directly in front of the soundbooth to (hopefully) help the sound quality. I think it was a good choice, even if it did mean I didn't get to stand right up in front, which was possible, as I was one of the first people in. Speaking of that, here's the deal with the soundcheck: I arrived at the venue around 5:00, which was 2 hours before doors were scheduled to open. I went to what I thought was the main entrance. A few minutes after arriving, a woman opened the door and told the handful of Devotees hanging out that this was the "VIP entrance" and that we could pay $10 and get early entry right now into the venue. Her selling point was that we could get happy hour bar specials. I couldn't care less about that. Of course, I immediately recognized several OTHER bonuses: 1) it would get me out of the 95 degree heat, 2) it didn't appear that they had any security at this VIP entrance, so it looked easy to get the recorder in, and 3) most importantly, Devo were in the midst of soundchecking (they were just finishing "Satisfaction"), so now I could hear it from the inside & record it. I happily paid my $10 and went in, making a b-line for the mens room to get the recorder going. During this time, I missed "Timing X" and "Soo Bawls", but got the recorder started in just enough time to catch "Stop Look & Listen" onward. The main showroom was partitioned off from the "VIP bar room" by a big black curtain, so although I could hear everything quite well, I couldn't see the band. So, soundcheck was recorded from this bar room. You'll hear some chatter at various points during soundcheck from other fans who paid for early entry, but it's nothing to lose any sleep over. I edited out extended periods where there was nothing happening on stage -- don't worry, I DID keep in the parts where the band was tuning up or talking (I made those in-between parts individual tracks, labeled as "warm up 1", "warm up 2", etc)

SHOW NOTES:
- This was Devo's first show since Bob Casale's death.
- This was the first time a lot of these songs were ever performed live.
- Josh Freese was on drums
- Brian Applegate assisted with additional synth during some songs from the side of the stage (i.e., "Bamboo Bimbo", "Jocko Homo"); he was brought out on stage to play bass during "Clockout" as Jerry acknowledges.
