The Dexys Midnight Runners at top form on one of my first shows. Festa do Avante is the anual Portuguese Comunist Party and this event (it still stands today) was always able to bring great international artists that were out of the national circuit of concerts (if Portugal had any at the time). So, going to the Festa has always been a very interesting journey even if not for ideological reasons. From a cultural point of view is always amazing. It is like for three days you can experience the world in a nut shell.
This recording was not done by me, i was a young boy not yet into taping but music was already a big part of my life and as the taper was a person close to my family the tape stayed with us until now.The show was recorded on a 60 minutes tape and the taper paused the recording a few times to save tape that is why there are some gaps through out the recording but it does not affect the songs or even the flow of the show that i believe is recorded in full here.
I have never traded this recording many times but this is a new and better transfer than the previous ones i might have done. The sound is not that bad for the conditions of the show (open air and for sure more than 25000 people there) and for the recorder used (i always loved that one). It is indeed a nice document to preserve of a concert many still remember and others don't have a clue :-)
Enjoy and share.
Cheers
