nov 2007 Glitterhouse Records will release the "dirtmusic" album. About a year ago the idea of making an album of stripped back semi-acoustic songs was beckoning me so I talked to my friends Chris Eckman and Chris Brokaw about it and although we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into, we decided to let it happen. We wrote individually and met up last european spring to rehearse a few days in Ljubljana, play some shows around central Europe and generally let the dirtmusic thing breathe a little. Following that brief spin, we recorded this album in a fine analogue studio near Prague and its these sessions that make up the long player coming out now. There are three song writers here coming from different places and so there's a tension pulling in different directions but basically its about voices, stories, guitars, harmoniums, atmospheres. Although the disc is predominantly desolate there are some strange detours here and quite probably it's not what you expected - which is how it should be. We're getting together in January to take a trip to Mali, Africa and play live at the Festival au Desert near Timbuktu where the desert tribes meet once a year for a weekend of open air music, presided over by the presence of the late, great Ali Farka Toure. This adventure may well transform the future dirtmusic experiment completely - but in the meantime, we propose this document of a debut album...

In late 2007 the band got invited to play the african festival in the desert.

>>I will meet Dirtmusic at the airport Paris. Chris Brokaw is coming in from New York, Hugo Race from Autralia and Chris Eckman from Slowenia.
We will fly to Bamako, the capital city of Mali. There the band will be rehearsing and practicing for 3 days.
Then we will fly to Timbuktu and straight go on with jeeps to Essakane, 6 hours away to the center of the Sahara desert.
In Essakane, where the festival will take place, we will stay in tents, as there is no infrastructure as we are used to in european countries. Have you ever shit in the desert sand ? (sorry for this provoking phrase). I´m a little bit nervious about all ...
My main fear is to get ill by bad food or drinks.
But I´m willing to forget all about it , because the music, the people , the landscape ... everything will weight more than the fear of illness.
The lineup for the festival is fixed , beside musicians from Mali and the rest of Africa, there will be a innuit (escimo) band from Canada, a band from Isreal, a band from Katalonia (Spain) and many many more.
I´m quite sure that this will be a thrilling experience. <<<

THE TOUR CD !! on sale from April 24th at shows only !!
>>When I was with them in Mali, Africa, I had the chance to make a recording of the mainstage set.
Now we will release this recording as an "official limited bootleg CD" and it will be sold during the tour.
The CD contains the whole set from the Sahara and 2 more songs recorded at the hotel rehearsals.
Attention: the sound is not excellent because of the strange circumstances. But as a field recording and a documentary it is an extraordinary gem.
The CD is limited to 500 copies and the copies which will not be sold at the tour will be available later from Glitterhouse after the tour.
All sales will be used for the next trip to africa for a recording session with the Tuareg band Tamikrest. >>

" in january 2008 i was with dirtmusic in africa at the festival au desert. there we recorded some songs which ended up on the "official" bootleg cd __DIRTMUSIC IN THE DESERT__ Some songs couldn't find their way to the cd, most of them because of unclear copy right(sic)situations.
So this is the "inofficial" bootleg extension to the "official" bootleg cd.
No money interests involved-- just for friends and the love of music"
