comments:
The recording begins at the start of the show but track 1 is cut in the middle
(spliced) and track 2 cuts in. I'm not sure if any more than that is missing,
but this is most of a hot Dixie Dregs set, the only one I ever saw. Storm Warning
opened the show, we didn't record them. It sounds pretty good, not one of my best.
The crowd was in the mood for the Dixie Dregs and very enthusiastic, rather loud
between songs but not overbearing during the songs. Steve Morse has been very
popular in Boston for a long time, playing a few shows through the 80's with his
own group (which for awhile included DD drummer Rod Morgenstein, who is very good.)
At least a couple called this music what Mahavishnu Orchestra would have sounded
like in they had decided to be a country music group. 79 and 80 seem to be the
hottest period for this group (77 and 78 also very good music) which doesn't
really sound like anybody, except, Dixie Dregs. This is a good thing, one of 2
I have to share from them. The other is a full late show from the same place,
next year (1981). There's a little country/bluegrass/rock and roll/hillbilly
jamnmin' all rolled up into a ball of fun and a good time was had by all at
this show. I don't remember for sure if this was a sold out house or not, but
if not, close to, there were alot of people psyched to hear the DD in 1980
in Boston. They may have added a second show (by popular demand) but the ad
for this concert lists just 1 show starting at 8:30. I know they did in 1981
because that one I have is the late show. Not sure about this one.
We may have tried to see the show and found out they had to add a second because
the early one sold out. I helped record this, not sure if I held the mike or the
deck, only that me and a friend recorded it, and he has the master tape. I was
always afraid of wearing out my tapes and never played masters on hungry or cheesy
tape decks, (except sometimes to record the master if nothing better was available)
so this tape has held up well over the 27 years.
in case anyone wants to put these onto 2 CD's, since this is a little over 80,
the other a little under, I think it can be done (without any editing) but it will
be a cram. I could have tried to CD extract this thing, save me four or five hours
remastering time. So I tried, and there was a problem so I had to say those 2 WORDS
again for the 1st posting of this. New transfer. For both of these, no CD, no DAT,
nothing but 1st gen. cassette lineage here for both shows. the only difference
between this and initial seed of this (and 1981 Boston show) is added titles
to info and sound files, and the torrent equivalent of a conjoined twin seperation
surgery. the FLAC's are the same ones used in the 1st posting.
For the second reseeding a flac > wav > flac (sb's aligned) reconversion was done
to remove the sbe's.
