Three late night appearances of jazz master Dizzy Gillespie (1917-1993).
First, Johnny Carson's fondness of Dizzy is plain to see. I'm not sure
how many times Dizzy appeared on the Tonight Show but he seems like
a frequent guest. These are among the last, if not his final visits.
The Arsenio Hall Show features Dizzy and his band with trumpet great
John Faddis sitting in. After "A Night in Tunisia", the band goes
into a rap about Dizzy's career. This is fun stuff.
On this DVD we catch Dizzy Gillespie near the end of his long career.
He never lost his great sense of humor nor his likeability. Both are
abundant here.
"Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny." - Frank Zappa
