Nick was proud of his ability to fit into virtually any jazz context, and Doc Cheatham, who was in his late 70's at the time, was a frequent visitor to the Albany, NY area. Listening to the rapport between swing player Doc Cheatham (a contemporary of Louis Armstrong) and Nick Brignola, a die hard bopper with some very modern leanings is fascinating. There are very few recordings like this and this is a darn good one.

Al Quagleri had been a first rate trumpet player until his embouchure went bad and he turned into a fairly decent pianist. Bill Fuller is a local bassist who was well regarding for his solid sense of time, although not the best soloist. Tim Coakley was and is a reliable drummer who lives for jazz. He is current president of the concert group A Place For Jazz and a highly regarded jazz DJ for WAMC and can be heard at wamc.org every Saturday night.
