"Amplification & limiting was necessary due to the lack of any
significant amplification in the hall & the volume of the applause.
"Tennesse Stud" is slightly cut at the end because I didn't anticipate
that an 84 year old man would do a nearly 2 hour show and my tape ran
out. Fortunately, I had another one ready.
PS- I'm not that guy that yells "Yeah!" a few times"

My notes...

Doc is a monument of American music. His stories & music both priceless
& timeless. Doc is from a completely different era & I found it
fascinating to hear him talk about all the music that inspired him over
the years: Chet Atkins, Josh Graves, Grandpa Jones, Bob Dylan, Merle
Travis, Mel Tillis, Tom Paxton, Moody Blues. Sometimes when you witness
a really special live performance, the artist shares a feeling with you
through his thoughts & stories that is difficult to reproduce over the
internet.
All together I've lived in North Carolina about 4 years. I'm out on the
coast & it's a very long drive inland to where the shows are. Also it
seems like we're always working when the bluegrass festivals happen in
the spring time. So, for one reason or another, even though I lived in
North Carolina, I'd never gotten to see Doc play. In the fall of 06 I
happened to be up in New England visiting my mom. I happened to find out
from a friend of mine in NC, that Doc was playing up in North Hampton. I
was ecstatic & bought a ticket immediately. I was very touched & moved by
the performance. I was so inspired by this night that I decided to make
a commitment to play guitar again, after having quit inexplicably
several years ago.
I don't remember exactly, the course of events this evening, but it did
go something like this... I think... Doc & Richard came out & then Jack
joined them after a few songs. Then I think after track 11, Richard &
Jack left & Doc played a few by himself. I'm not sure, but I thought I
remembered Richard comimg back out after a few songs. After track 2 on
disc 2 Jack comes back out... & then at the end of track 6 on disc 2 Doc
says something about "... if ya holler loud enough maybe Richard will
come back out & pick some more with us". So, maybe after Richard exits
on disc 1, he doesn't come back 'till the end of disc 2. If the taper is
around, he may be able to confirm this, or anyone for that matter, who
was in attendance this night. Since I couldn't remember exactly how this
went, I decided to put Jacks name in parentheses, on the songs that
he sang. I did know most of the songs here, however I was not familiar
with tracks 4 & 8 from disc 2. So, if there are any pickers or fans out
there who know these songs, please feel free to help fill in the gaps.
Concerning this recording... This venue, the "Calvin Theatre" is a
large, old fashioned theatre that sits in the middle of downtown North
Hampton. This is not an ideal venue to make an audience recording of
acoustic music. During the first track on disc 1, the taper is working
to adjust the volume, so be patient, the sound improves. In my opinion,
the taper did an amazing job of capturing this show. As far as obnoxious
audience disturbances go, they were minimal to none. You can hear some
guy holler "yeah!" a few times, but thats about it. The crowd was well
behaved & respectful, and were genuinely interested in the
music & stories.
