Don Cherry Workshop Orchestra, Pension Building, Washington DC, October 3, 1981. From masters. Recorded from near front center with a Sony C150 mono recorder with ALC on standard bias Maxell cassettes.

Band consisted of about 20 locals who had volunteered to be part of a workshop with Cherry. They apparently rehearsed with him that afternoon before performing two sets beginning at 9 that evening. Lots of long vamps over which Cherry and a few brave souls solo. Pension Building adds nice resonance.

Taper digitized these sets long ago and edited out the tape flips before burning the compressed WAV files to CDR. As a result of eliminating the tape flips, the second set--which was one long medley--is well over 80 minutes long and when decompressed to WAV will not fit onto a single CDR. Possibilities includes burning as a DVD-A, burning as FLAC and listening via a FLAC player, leaving this set on one's hard drive as FLAC or WAV, or splitting the WAV file where one chooses for burning to CDRs.
