::: Extremely fine AUD tape with a few distractions. Check samples to repudiate, associate, extrapolate, celebrate.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. #02 1st 25secs slightly distorted. #04/27/30/41/52 some clapping. Some songs start while audience still clapping for preceeding song. #09 to start of #12 has *NR w/a few artifacts & is still hissy, but originally had almost NO levels at all. Most 2nd set songs have a few (minor!) micro digi-glitches. #41/42 some singalong.
::: "Essence To Essence" recorded between 1973-09-01 & 1973-10-13 at UK's Morgan Studios.
::: Donovan says "Essence To Essence" is about to come out - a fast turnaround time!
::: 7 of the 11 "Essence To Essence" then-unissued LP trax played here, WITHOUT heavy production.
::: #22+23 are songs from "The Pied Piper" unissued 1972 soundtrack. (The 2002 CD is a contemporary CD of new songs & re-recordings).
::: #38-40 is a medley from the "Brother Sun/Sister Moon" 1972 soundtrack, STILL unissued in original form. (The 2004 CD contains re-recordings).

Recording Information ::: unknown mono reel to reel recorder/microphone -> master mono reel -> 1st generation reel -> DAT 32KHz/16-bit -> optical cable -> Tascam 900SL CD recorder -> CD-RW -> EAC -> wavs -> computer.
Playback 2018-11-xx & 2019-01-xx ::: wavs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, clap, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, several averaged pitch (speed) adjustments made with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, no equalization (*except on some mike overload/bump spots), no noise reduction (*except #09 to start of 12 extreme hiss/hum reduction from almost NO levels), between song silence and/or clapping edited out in several places] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded 2019-01-xx.
Line-up ::: Donovan Philips Leitch - acoustic guitar, harmonica, vocals.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
DimeTravel 484 ::: Thanks to the original taper MK, & The Man In The Palace, whose reel I did copy. Thanks to DIMER gv0000 for a bit o' research. This goes out to S.Howes & The Florida Kid for diggin' Don. ::: Corrections welcome ::: Another fine discovery found buried in a "DATS with death knolls" box in the aging archives. After some untold hours of patching & clean-up, I think I've resuscitated this one enough to pass muster with most. Sadly, almost no Donovan tapes circulate from this late '73 era (what else you got?). The '73 Japanese & Belgium shows are from the "Cosmic Wheels" spring tour. There's a LOT of magic happening here & a superb set selection, with some very rare live versions of songs, like 2 songs he'd recorded for the 1972 "Pied Piper" soundtrack or the very early live version of "A Well Known Has-Been" (which didn't come out 'til '76 on "Slow Down World"), a live "Saint Valentine's Angel", the unissued "Freedom For The North" of which perhaps only a couple of versions have surfaced prior to now - both from spring '72, 3 songs from the "Brother Sun/ Sister Moon" soundtrack, a live version of "What The Soul Desires", a 70s version of "Little Tin Soldier", etc. To be honest, it's worth the download just to hear the version of "Divine Daze Of Deathless Delight" (a stunner!), tho' "There Is An Ocean" isn't far behind... At the time, the audience must have been unfamiliar about a third of the songs in the set. The "Essence To Essence" songs shine like they never have before. Some of the material that is washed over & buried in production on the album is astonishing. I'd say this recording re-writes history for the "Essence To Essence" era/songs and, if nothing else, it's certainly a revelation. Certainly a lot of Donovan freaks will be joyful to finally have a listenable version of "Freedom For The North" & to hear a vintage version of "Sometimes I'm Lonely". Some important Leitch is unleashed within. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
