Notes:

In gratitude for the blizzard of killer Doobies shows over the last few months, I offer this FM show which doesn't seem to circulate much, which is odd because it was apparently broadcast over vast areas of the English-speaking world.

I hadn't listened to this in a long time, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It sounded better than I remembered. There is really nice separation between the drummers that allows you to hear their very cool interaction. Beware of ecstatic, loud audience! There may be some minor flaws: the odd drop-out here and there, some radio noise and other anomalies related to live remote broadcasts. There are some songs that cut in (and some other breaks) which I think were due to obnoxious station ID's and/or commercials for PBR. As always, check out the samples for general sound quality before downloading. Apologies, but I don't remember which LA FM station broadcast this, it might have been KWST.

Couple random observations: Ti Porter is an absolutely unreal bassist. He sounds uncannily like Phil Lesh during the wild outros of both "Clear As The Driven Snow" and "I Cheat The Hangman" (both of which bear more than a passing resemblance to the Grateful Dead's "The Other One"). Note Pat's bootleg comment. Anybody got the aud of this show? If so, bring it on! Interesting combo of guests on the encore - the great Sal Valentino of the Beau Brummels, and the Jacksons (Michael too?).

In their prime, these guys were one of the most intense bands on the planet. Seems to me they never got their due (artistically that is, as opposed to commercially, where they seemed to do okay). Thanks again to all who've seeded the Doobs, on Dime and elsewhere. There are some other gems out there that I hope will surface in the fullness of time, such as the video (or even the audio) of their appearance on ABC's "In Concert" from Madison Square Garden in 1972, King Biscuit shows from Philadelphia in 76 and the Rainbow in London in '77, and any other audience recordings of the classic '71 through '74 era.
