David Watson's production notes:
I asked Doyle Bramhall to sing some songs I wrote, "I Know", "Valentine Blues" and "Long Lonely Nights". The Pantego recording sessions were the start of what ended up being "Bird Nest on the Ground" (1994). In April 1980, we started at Kirkwood Studio (8 track studio owned by Kerry Vance) in Dallas, Texas. By November 1980, we moved to Pantego Sound Studio (24 track studio) in Pantego, Texas. We took one day in Dallas and two days in Pantego.
Doyle was fronting The Millionaires with Robin Syler and Alex Napier at the time. Denny Freman, David Murray, Sumpter Bruton III, Joe Sublett, and myself were also in the band. Logan Hunter's photo is from a session that was not recorded.
Doyle, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Chris Layton tried to recreate "Dirty Pool" with no bass player. Stevie tried to teach me the bass lines with no success, so that session was scrapped.
These may not be the best quality recordings since the tape is over 35 years old.
Please share with anyone interested in Doyle's music.
Thanks,
David Watson
