from MILAN collection # 033

Rec. Info:
unknown linaged audience recording, unknown equipment used. Generation seems rather low than high.
This cassette (TDK SA90)-> tranfer via Onkyo tapedeck -> masterfiles via WETransfer (WAV 16/44) -> Audacity (edit/remaster) -> WAV 16/44 -> TLH8 -> FLAC -> DIME -> YOUR EARS AND MIND...
The overall sound was a bit muddy, so I clean it up a bit in lowering the high end as well as increasing the higher ends. This resulted i a bit more hiss, but the clarity of the music
is much better now.

CONTRAST CLAUSE...
This is definitely another recording than the one on archive.org/or posted here in 2008. While the latter one is by superoir sound, it only contains 4 songs. This one here has 11 (or ten,
if you don't count the Tuning track), and is a much rawer upfront recording. More about this mystery tape below.

Well, as you all know, I love the fabulous DREAM SYNDICATE, and I was really happy that dear MILAN gave me the opportunity to remaster and post this fantastic early show. All went well
until after track 6, where the tapeflip was. The remainer of the show has more hiss, but that's no big deal, that occurs often on old tapes, if they weren't masters. The real QUESTIONMARK
in my head came with the second versions of JCSB/When you smile. Both are very different from those on tape side A. So might those been from another show?
Not really, I think. As Steve states something about "Jimmy's" in his talk on track # 10, it is clear, that this must be (99 %) from the same date. My conclusion is rather simple: Those days
it was common to play an early and a late show (as I know from numerous Jerry Garcia Band shows, for example). So, all of tape side A might be from the early, the remainer from the late show.
Seems logical, doesn't it?
But what about the music? To me, any DS song is a great song, but two primal JCSB versions, a short pre-record MEDICINE SHOW as well as a fantastic move from WHEN YOU SMILE into Bonnie Dobson's
MORNING DEW (wasn't the fictional but very impressive movie THE DAY AFTER released in 83, too?), and the concluding SEASON OF THE WITCH by Donovan really stand out! Cool stuff. Indeed.
I hope you all like this one as I did/do. Nothing for highend afficinadoes, but very well listenable. Maybe someone can shed a little light on this tape.
Meanwhile, I'll lighten one up, put on my rocket seatbelts, and off it goes into psychedelic heaven...SB.
