These three musical giants first hooked up at a music camp/instructional gig they
all were a part of in Wyoming during the summer of 2008. Before they departed, they promised to get together when schedules allowed. Hence, three gigs were played in the NC/SC area during December of that same year. Charlotte, featured here, was the second of the three.
The shows featured new material composed by the trio(but not yet titled), a few Duarte classics, at least one Steve Bailey tune, and a whole lot of improvisation of the highest caliber. Rock, Jazz, and Jazz fusion are the categories which these pieces best fall under, with Lengthy Jams being the style.
Steve Bailey is just unbelievable. The best bassist I've seen Chris play with. Even
better than the legendary John Jordan! There, I said it.
Jeff Sipe is the most captivating drummer I've seen since Matt Apts. He's a total machine, playing with that stoned appearing, trance-like, eyes half open,"in the zone" look, occasionally breaking from the trance to smile in appreciation at something he hears which strikes him.
There were actually smiles like that from all three musicians throughout the brief tour. All three are top, world-class, stellar players who appreciate each others gifts and the chance to play with guys of their own level of talent. It was truly amazing to behold.
