In Herb's original words ...
Looking back after exactly 50 years, I must say Earth and Fire’s concert in Minden ranks among the most impressive live performances (likewise Nektar only two month later, already offered here before)I have seen in the 70's.
I`m pretty sure I saw them at the height of their career as a prog band, soon after the ATLANTIS tour they turned more commercial which finally led to their 1979 Mega Hit „Weekend“.
Minden’s setlist mostly comprised material of the last two albums „ Song Of The Marching Children“ and „Atlantis, plus the previous continental hits „Memories“ and „Maybe Tomorrow, Maybe Tonight“.
The band, at that time, was continuously on the road, with 158 concerts played in 1973 and 32 concerts in 1974, before that very night.
Their performance was absolutely tight and professional with superb visual effects by their liquid light show projectionscovering the stage and the PA with four Altec Voice Of The Theatre (painted in white!!!!!) on each side.
The sound was remarkably good, so that already during the performance, I was very unhappy about my poor recording equipment that night, consisting only of a portable Telefunken mono tape machine and mic from the same brand, designed for voice recording.
Four years ago I got in touch with Cees Roos, E&F roadie between 1972-1976, driving their truck and operating the following spot during the concerts. Cees was kind enough to allow me to add some pics from around 1974 from his privatearchive ! THANK YOU CEES !
The concert poster announces the dates before and after the Minden show, maybe different local promoters involved then in Minden.
Feel free to remaster or matrix the show and to provide artwork (please naming source and all involved) – and then please RE-SEED here on DIME and share!
Please thank the gentleman that recorded the show; "Herb Smith" and his friend "William Tell" for providing the recording.
PLEASE ENJOY THE MUSIC, WHILE YOU STILL CAN, BEFORE YOU'RE DEAD! AND WE'RE ALL DYING IN HERE, BUT YOU'RE NOT DEAD YET, BUT YOU WILL BE SOON AND AND WHAT GOOD WILL YOUR RECORDINGS BE THEN WHEN YOU'RE DEAD AND GONE AND YOU'RE NO LONGER HERE TO ENJOY THEM ANYMORE WITH ANYONE ELSE, SO LET'S NOT DIE WITHOUT SHARING OUR RECORDINGS...
