Ella Fitzgerald in The Netherlands: Amsterdam 1961 & Tilburg 1971

Going 40-50 years back, this is some vintage Ella from:
1961 (tracks 1-9; Concertgebouw Amsterdam 18/19 February - midnight concert) and 1971 (tracks 10-17; Pelikaanhal - Pelican Hall - Tilburg, the Netherlands, 7 May). Dutch radio broadcasts.

The 1961 part was (re?)broadcast in the early 1990's, whereas the 1971 part - being originally broadcast in 1972 - was re-broadcast as part of the in memoriam Ella Fitzgerald radio program in 1996. Broadcast announcements: Aad Bos (1961) and Michiel de Ruyter (1971). My tapings of the broadcasts.

As far as I know, these recordings have never surfaced on either LP or CD (not in my latest Lord edition 6.0). The 1961 recording is between the Verve CD "Ella Returns To Berlin" (11 February) and the bootleg Jazz Door CD from Belgrade (21 February). The 1971 recording is about 10 days before the bootleg CD on Jazz Door (Belgrade, 18 May, but without the Basie band).

The Tilburg recording may be a little less vintage, but Ella is in great form here and the surprises are the tracks with the Count Basie band. In C-Jam Blues: Basie at the piano and soloing by Al Grey and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis.

Enjoy!
