Elton John
St Louis Chaifetz Arena Nov 24 2013

I've been an Elton fan since I was a kid (I had his greatest hits in 1973 I believe I got it for Xmas I was 12) I followed his career but did not always love his music. Funny that by 1975 he had released teh last record I loved Captain Fantastic. That year also brought the first Elton album I did not love Rock of the Westies. I suppose that because I was still learning about the music I was growing up with I had some time exploring his earlier and greatest releases, including the one we were celebrating in Nov 2013- Good Bye Yellow Brick Road. Over the years Elton released some things I enjoyed and I always followed his career.

I had seen Elton twice some years before, both times with Billy Joel. I bought tickets to see them in Memphis around 1999 then I was working security at a St Louis venue and got to see them together again in 2003. Billy brings up teh energy level!

This recording is missing all of one of not just my favorite Elton songs but my favorite songs of all time, Funeral For a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding! Why??? The parking situation at Chafitz arene is so fucked up I was in line to get in parking traffic a full hour before the show and it took that freaking long to get parked that I missed the opener and half the next song (another great Bennie and the Jets!!!)

All the problems aside we had a lot of fun at the show. As we were getting seated and setting up to tape we were already singing with Bennie Bennie Bennie and the Jets! There were some traveling drunk people behind me following Elton from town to town and they had to mess with me more than once, at one point we clearly hear one lean in and ask about my phone- I was videoing with the phone on my knee- takes great video and the sound is great too! At one point she also stole my hat!!!

One last note. When Elton left before the encore he walked right under me, I leaned over to take a pic and my edirol dropped out of my pocket and onto teh floor!! Turned itself off I turned it back on and got the rest of teh show. I popped the card into my car stereo on the way home and the concert would not play, teh encore was fine but not the first hour or so. Seems dropping the recorder somehow chenged the file. I messed with that file for hours over a few dys, I looked to the Dime community for any advice and was directed to VLC which allowed me to play teh file but not to recover it. I eventually played it with the Edirol plugged in and was able to get a good file to work with. I'm pleased with the quality of my recording so I'm sharing it here.

Oh yeah, I take a lot of photos at concerts, usually 500 or 600 pictures. This one I was at stage right and Elton's back was to me. He stood after each song and turned and waved to everybody so I have photos of that and his back while he played. Nice pics of teh band, I'll put a few in teh torrent.

I think it sounds good, I'll post some samples and you can decide.
