Comments of Mr. John Beresford Tipton Jr.:

“In our continuing series of bringing you the finest historic live concert tapes this tape is interesting on several fronts. Beyond the setlist and concert location, one recording fact catches this commenters eyes:

The recording gear!

A Sony WM-D6 recording deck with a Sony ECM 909A microphone and Maxell XL-IIS cassette tapes.

This setup would represent a state of the art audience recording setup in the 1980s. More than one concert taper saved their money to be able to afford set a recording rig. Maybe you had a paper route, maybe you worked some minimum wage job in a store, maybe you did landscaping. Whatever you did, you did it for the freedom and work experience those first jobs taught you.
Many concert tapers started out with what their budget could afford: RadioShack compact cassette decks or other low budget equipment.
For those so inclined to tape their musical memories the Sony setup was “THE” hot setup. A electronic and financial “Mount Everest” that had to be earned to be climbed! Many a concert taper sweated for the money to buy such a setup.

Imagine working your after school job, saving your money. A “perfect evening” would be asking a girl you had your eye on for some time to a concert, scoring the tickets, taping the show and after the show maybe taking your date out to some pizza and a beer or some wine if you were of drinking age.
A “big plus” was if your date enjoyed your live concert taping hobby as much as you did, even if they did not listen to the creations the same way you did.

A trifecta was if she agreed to see you again.

A different time, a different place but the timelessness of live music and female companionship is timeless. A memorable smile that never stop giving, even to this day.

Carpe diem!”
