Good Lord, where do I start. How about some (supposed) facts -

Endless Boogie is from Brooklyn, NY.
Endless Boogie is comprised of members who work at Matador Records.
Endless Boogie's 4 band members have a collective age of 169.
Endless Boogie only plays gigs when asked to do so.
Endless Boogie is either adored or hated.

It's a rare occurrence in life that you enter what's expected to be a pretty mundane, banal experience and get floored by something you've never seen before. I had such an experience watching Endless Boogie open for Yo La Tengo.

First, the visual side. Top Dollar is rockin' the most spot-on Derek Smalls haircut I've ever seen, only longer. The rest of the group looks relatively clean cut. Weird juxtaposition right off the bat.

Second, the sound. Heavy and plodding, head nodding droning psychedelia with drug trip lyrics (some involving snorting the fumes off a microwaved fish out of the East River), Velvet Underground meets NY & Crazy Horse - which all add up to ultimately awesome in Uncle D's book.

Third, band principles. These guys came out as an opener for Yo La Tengo - wildly varied, stylistically diverse Yo la Tengo - and played one song.......................................that lasted 48 minutes.

I was talking to a guy next to me at the show and, both increduously and reverently, said "This is an opening band and they just played a 20 minute song", of course not knowing that this was just a break in the wave before another hit the shore and aforementioned song wasn't even half over.

After the show I asked their soundman if Endless Boogie went on stage with any semblance of a plan or setlist. He told me there was definitely a plan - they start jammin' on the riff to The Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" and then it just goes where it goes. Garage band heaven folks. All stoners do indeed need to apply.

Ira probably summed it up best - "Thanks to the fantastic Endless Boogie for an amazing song they played tonight. While they were playing I was looking at their record over there, a double album, and somehow they managed to fit three songs per side, I think, and anyone who saw that set will have to buy their record just to find out how that can possibly be done."

Y'all enjoy!

This set was one big 'ol trip so we'll make some splits and name the tracks accordingly:
1. Trip #1
2. Trip #2
3. Trip #3
4. Trip #4
5. Trip #5

Top Dollar (Paul Major) - G/V
