Preliminary remark:

Thanks for all your nice comments and PM's concerning
the Rick Danko / Jonas Fjeld / Eric Andersen "DFA"
reseed here on DIME last week...

As promised, this one here is fresh transferred & so
far uncirculated (speaking for the soundboard source).

If you want to get more informations about Eric, his music or how
we came in contact with him, please check out our uploads - there's
a list below. And there are still a lot of recordings in the vaults,
uploads depend just on YOUR INTEREST, your comments, your devotion...

Sometimes i think that this Eric Andersen, although starting in the
early sixties together with Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton and Bob Dylan as
part of the Greenwich Village folkscene in New York, doesn't get the
public interest he deserves. Sadly another underrated artist ?

There's a slowly shrinking fanbase, some hardcore collectors, but
where are the tapers, where are the recordings ? Eric, close to 69,
is still touring today, small clubs, seemingly most unnoticed...

Almost unbelievable in times where you can get decent digital recorders,
unreal small & easy to use, for ~100 Euros. Stunning in times when his
buddy Robert Zimmerman (70) plays sold-out gigs in large venues, with
up to ten or more tapers per show, some of them using TWO sets of gear...

Seems it's our endeavor as manic collectors &
music connoisseurs to spread the word around:

ERIC ANDERSEN IS STILL ALIVE, HE'S
PLAYING TOUCHING CONCERTS TO THIS DAY,
AND HE HAS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO SAY/SING...

Example ?

Even if you cannot believe it, here in Germany we DO have an intelligence (??) service,
the so-called Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. For decades now
they searched our whole population for all kinds of lunatic fringe. Miraculously they
found "lots of" extreme left-wingers, but even the bulletin of constitution protection
earlier this year showed NOT A SINGLE extreme right-wing act of violence...

But now, not even four weeks ago and by pure coincidence:

Two guys commited successfully an armed bank robbery, and then subsequently double-suicide.
In the wake of investigations into offences we have now a "Brown Army Fraction", a network
of neo-Nazis around a "Zwickau killer cell" - so far it's obvious they've slaughtered ten
people, eight turkish and one greek small business owner (trivialized as so called "kebab
homicide"), and a police woman - ten actually known within the last decade. And a vast number
of threads, raids and even bomb attacks...don't ask where the intelligence (??) service was.
They've been paying lots of money for confidential informants inside these networks, and
still there are rumours that even the "Zwickau cell" aka Nationalsocialist Underground aka
"NSU" had been on their pay-roll.

Outrageous, hard to believe ?

Maybe for the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and for about half of our
politicians - from conservatives to Tea Party members to finally the true ultra right-winger.

NOT FOR US...NOT FOR MOST OF THEM "ORDINARY PEOPLE"...

Rostock-Lichtenhagen August 1992, Solingen May 1993, and periodic neo-Nazi marches all over
the last decade, some of them on a regular monthly basis e.g. in Wunsiedel @ Rudolf Hess' tomb
or in Gräfenberg @ war memorial (25 kilometers northeast of Nuremberg). Always a few groups of
a hundred officers, always police ranks to protect them marches against the commonality, the
local residents and those certain "left-wing weirdos". Penal procedure for people like you and
me, for our neighbors, because they had the guts for sit-ins against fascism, or for taking
pictures of them neo-Nazi marches. There is so far NOT A SINGLE trial known concerning them
neo-Nazis photographing their counter-demonstrators...or alternative menace...

TRULY A MAD WORLD...

As early as twenty years ago all this must have been quite obvious for Eric.

So he wrote a forceful protest song called "Rain Falls Down In Amsterdam", available
on his album "Memory Of The Future", on countless concerts - and in this torrent:

Fire bomb those houses burn those refugees
Be the crowd and do your work
Applauding silently round up all the gypsies
Go sell them on the trains
Can't you smell the smoke now
Drifting through the rain
Jews better draw your curtains
You better lock your doors up tight
They're snarling up in Rostock in the beer hall belly nights
The Fourth Reich's coming now baby
They're writing out the page in Rome, Berlin, and Stockholm
The beast has left the cage...

ABOUT THIS CONCERT HERE:

There are not that many Eric shows available...
i've determined this quite often without further legal recourse.

Especially from early 90ies...

We got this out of his own collection while preparing his first German tour in 1997.

An early digital soundboard (DSBD) recording on a DAT cassette running
60 minutes SP - sadly incomplete...the concert was running out of tape - DAMN !
Eric ownes either the master-DAT or the first clone, so this here is 2nd clone, at worst...

A concert from Eric's 1993 short tour of Italy...and as this is "Grappa-country",
there is not much more information left from the artist...no other dates etc...
Maranello is confirmed, same with the venue...must have been Ferrari related.

Doing some research i found an audience recording of the same show, but not having
this tape in our collection, i was not able to find out if it's complete, etc...
Maybe someone is able to shed some light on it:

Centrico Civico, Maranello, Italy, 5/8/93 aud B+
plus filler: Utrecht Tivoli 4/1/94 and Roskilde, 6/24/89 (2cd)
http://www.rickmcgrath.com/ricksboots1.html

AND NOW THE SAME PROCEDURE AS USUAL:

FOR THE FIRST TIME OUT OF OUR ARCHIVE,
COMPLETELY UNTRADED, SLIGHTLY MASTERED,
AND OTHERWISE UNALTERED - PLEASE ENJOY!

IN MY OPINION ANOTHER "MUST-HAVE" SHOW
(i know i write this ALL the time...)...!

WHY ??

Eric in peak form (thanks to Grappa, Grappa...and Grappa),
a very impressive recording (!!) with an incredible setlist:
TWO UNRELEASED SONGS/COVERS - not avilable on any of Eric's recordings,
the earliest known recorded live version of "Rain Falls Down In Amsterdam",
a short poem and a teaser/snippet of "Danny Boy",
AND finally some great narrations & stories, alone worth the FREE download...

THE SOUND HERE ?

It's a DSBD DAT recording with a lonetaper mastering - 'NUFF SAID !

if you're still beset BY DOUBTS,
please check the samples...or better:

LEAVE IT, GRAB SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT !!

all others - thanks for trusting me/us:

CRANK UP YOUR BEST STEREO SYSTEM & START SINGING !

was also home to coachbuilding firm Carrozzeria Scaglietti, now owned by Ferrari.

as far as we know NONE of this torrent was used commercially...

$2$ -> Eric on piano, some ocurring diginoizes completely repaired, sadly one
small diginoize/digipop, from 0:33.4351 - 0:33.5586, is still detectable with good
ears, although it was carefully smoothed out as far as possible without losing beat.

#1# -> unreleased by Eric Andersen - as far as i know still until today
Eric introduced the song: "...old song i learned of Jack Elliott, it's
a song by Reverend Gary Davis...", but actually it's written by Jesse Fuller...

#2# -> unreleased by Eric Andersen - as far as i know still until today
Have no idea about the author, maybe a kind soul can help me out, i found
this also as "Singin' Man", but never as an official Eric Andersen recording.
Lyrics start with: "...I'm a street singer and I'm singing my song..."
and later, kinda chorus: "...New York to Frankfurt and all the way back..."
There is a second recording of this song available in our archive:
1985-10-20 SBD The Ark, Ann Arbor, Michigan - as 4th song of the second set.

§ -> Londonderry Air is an old Irish aire that originated from County Londonderry.
It is popular among the Irish diaspora and is very well known throughout the world.
The tune is played as the victory anthem of Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth
Games, the most popular lyrics for the tune are "Danny Boy" ("Oh Danny Boy, the
pipes, the pipes are calling"), written by the English lawyer Frederick Edward
Weatherly in 1910, and set to the tune in 1913. It was popularized in vaudeville
by the Irish Americans and soon became a St. Patrick's Day favorite.

§§ -> Eric wanted to come back to Italy (and maybe other European states) in
July 1983 with his trio Danko, Fjeld & Andersen, but this had to be postponed
to the end of 1994 - a fine recording from December 02, 1994 is available here:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=382206

% -> song cuts out brutally by reason of 60 minutes DAT cassette running out...

the musician:

Eric Andersen - vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica,
marching handclaps on track #07. and a humming lesson on track #14.

# Fully edited version of this show by MWM 2011

NO EQ'ing was used here, and none of those compressors, Sonic Maximizer or
other psychoacoustic processors - why ruin a true digital soundboard recording ?

It sounds completely the way it was distinguishable that night in this venue - IF NOT WAY BETTER ;-)

I accentuated just all the applause and spoken passages inbetween the songs,
averagely +5,5 dB (with the same amount of careful digital hiss reduction),
balanced the stereo channels, reduced some of the instrumental plug ins and
smoothed out some harsh passages - just a touch - to help balance it overall
a bit better. Almost all ocurring digipops and diginoizes have been cleaned
completely (read above: "the notes") without losing any single note of music.

The only further addition was a short fade-in and, at the end, a fade-out - after the
audience applause, so truly NO MUSIC was harmed or lost -> normalization at the end...
