vEric Andersen (solo) - October 24, 1995 - Auditorium Roen, Bolzano, Italy
**from Soundboard-DAT-master, MWM 0019**

Jos (songhunter), i never thanked you properly.
Your "In The Woods"-torrents are simply stunning !
And your "ERIC ANDERSEN - Hollandsche Rading" recordings
are true masterpieces...SO THIS ONE HERE IS FOR YOU !

Another recording directly from the "Men With Microphones" archive.
"MWM" started in the 70ies in South Germany with analog recording equipment,
and at least two of them are still recording sometimes (since the 90ies on DAT).

Eric Andersen

Born in Pittsburgh, Andersen belonged in the early sixties together with Phil Ochs
and Bob Dylan to the Greenwich Village folkscene in New York. His best-known songs from
that time are “Violets of Dawn,” “Come to My Bedside” and “Thirsty Boots” (the latter
was recorded by Judy Collins and several others).

In 1966, he made his debut at the Newport Folk Festival and that same year he starred
in the Andy Warhol movie Space.

In 1970 he took part in the Festival Express tour across Canada with the Grateful Dead,
Janis Joplin, The Band and others.

In 1972 he issued his most successful (and sold) album Blue River. The tapes of his
follow-up album Stages got lost, but were found more than a decade later and issued
in 1991 as Stages: The Lost Album.

In 1975 he performed at the opening show of the Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue, at
Gerde's Folk City in New York, and again in Niagara Falls. After several albums
(country/rock/folk), he issued Ghosts Upon the Road a highly recognized album in 1988.

In the early 1990s he formed the trio Danko/Fjeld/Andersen together with Rick Danko
(The Band) and Jonas Fjeld and three albums were released. It lasted nine years before the
next solo album Memory Of The Future (1998) was issued.

In his 40-year career he has issued more than 20 albums to which many artists have
contributed e.g. Joan Baez, Dan Fogelberg, Al Kooper, Joni Mitchell, Leon Russell,
Richard Thompson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Eric Bazilian, Tony Garnier, Howie Epstein
and many others.
His songs have been recorded by artists all over the world, including The Blues Project,
Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, John Denver, Fairport Convention, Grateful Dead, Peter, Paul & Mary,
Ricky Nelson, Ratdog (Bob Weir), Linda Ronstadt and Pete Seeger.

Common Knowledge so far, i hope.

Here comes "our" Eric Andersen story:

It started with our friend Wolfi. If you live in the northern part of Germany, it's A MUST
to visit his concert-venue "Musicstar" in Norderstedt, north of Hamburg, minimum once in
your lifetime. There is a fine Recordstore too and if you are into Mac-computers, he's the
local provider at Marketplace 11. This was the promotional part of this torrent ;-)

Autumn 1995 Wolfi was in northern Italy to bring a Mac to a friend when he saw posters of
this concert here. He took his portable DAT, and after the concert they took Eric to a
friend's flat nearby, served food and Grappa, and talked the whole night through.
Eric played a few songs for them in the living room, one of them was the only known
live performance of "For What Was Gained"...but this is definitely NOT DIMEable...

Wolfi came back with this beautiful recording and the astonishing news
that Eric had NEVER played Germany in his whole life - so far...

Two years later we organised his first german tour,
with concerts from Bavaria to Hamburg,
and Wolfi helped Eric to get his "Memory of the Future"-CD
released by Normal Records in 1999.

If you are interested in MORE Eric Andersen LIVE...
(and there is a bunch more...), please leave a comment !
(The more nice comments, the earlier we open the archive...)
