Geetarz Comments:
The 1985 tour was pivotal, as it marked EC's reemergence as a "Guitar God". This was one of the shows preceding Clapton's career-changing performance at "Live Aid", with one of his best band lineups as well.
Can it get any better? Oh, yeah ... it's a perfect, close miked soundboard!
This is the premier release on the Tarantura label, catalog number TECD-001, 002, "Stereo Soundboard", "Original Master Recording".
There's always been some confusion about the way the label name is spelled, and the back cover of this release is no exception, reading (P) (C) TARANTULRA (with the 'L' Crossed out!), "E.C. Archives Chicago Branch".
By request, this is a new rip from my silvers, August 2009.
This is only the second time these discs have been handled - I made myself CD-R copies for daily listening back in the Dark Ages when I bought this set - back in the days when CD-Rs burned at any speed you wanted, so long as it was 1x!
Even if you already have a copy of this title, this may be a nice upgrade for you, direct from the silvers with known lineage.
Also, the original scans I did "back in the day" weren't very good (because my scanner, wasn't very good) so for this torrent I have included new scans at 300 DPI, including scans of the discs.
LINEAGE: Silvers > LiteOn iHAP322 (UL18 Firmware) > EAC v. 0.99 Prebeta 4 (Secure Mode, Calibrated Offset +6, 0) > FLAC (Level 6) > You !!!
Of course, EAC logs and checksums (FFP, MD5, and ST5) included.
There's been a lot of discussion lately about what is "essential" Clapton, and I'm really glad this has come up. It's so easy for those of us who are familiar with an artist to lose track of what's essential, and accessible to everyone, not just diehard fans.
This is definitely one of the "essential" recordings, not my favorite of the '85 tour but definitely one of my Top 3 (don't you love it when people say that, when it's merely a polite way of saying it's my Third Favorite).
All joking aside, this is a great one ... and remember, kids ... PLAY IT LOUD!
