Show 2 of my whirlwind Royal Albert Hall taping adventure.

First day of Eric Clapton at RAH so I am excited. It has been 2 years since
I had seen him play and after the Los Angeles cancellations I was worried the
shows wouldn't happen. Taping these Clapton show was a tag team with fellow
Schoeps taper Scooter123. We were running identical rigs and the goal was to
get at least 1 excellent recording per night. First thing I had the Pink Floyd
exhibit which was about 2 hours of enjoyment. If you are in London it is a must
see. 5 stars. After the exhibit I got ready and the plan was to meet with
Scooter123 at The Gore Hotel which has history with the Rolling Stones. Between
the walking the previous day and the 2 hours walking the exhibit my feet were sore.
I tried to finf the hotel but missed the entrance and when I realized it was on the
opposite side I had Scooter123 meet me at the statue by the box office. We had no
issues at the door and went to the same bar (Stella Artois bar on the second level).
Seats and a table, not too crowded, a good spot to meet.

Just before showtime we went to our seats just off dead center in the 5th row. A
bit close but I have never seen Clapton that close so I didn't try and trade back.
Doyle Bramhall II came out and put on a good 45 minute set. I have to admit his
vocals are not my favorite but I go see him for the same reason as I see Jeff Beck.
He can shred the axe. I like watching him play the upside down right handed guitar
just like Jimi.

After the break Eric Clapton came out and he looked good. I was mesmerized just
watching his hands play guitar. After a really nice version of I Shot The Sheriff
we got the acoustic set. This is where we got the highlight of the night. An
acoustic version of Bell Bottom Blues. Really nice and memorable. Turns out the only
night it was played. Insprired verions of Badge and Crossroads followed. Eric then
invites Doyle out and they have fun plaaying Little Queen of Spades together. They
are talking and laughing together durin the jam and I could read Eric's lips saying
"stop it" to Doyle as he laughed. Cocaine ends the set and a one song encore with High
Times We Went. After he show we walk down to the Hoop and Toy for after show beers
and reports of the Manchester explosion hit. It Was totally surreal. We also knew
taping the last 2 show got very real. No longer were we sure how difficult it would
be.....to be continued
