Eric Gales
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 1, 2017
Here it is again this year, Waterfront Blues Festival. I'm not going to be recording much this year. I'm just to busy with family and retirement. The radio station is still cutting in at weird time to announce all the station call numbers. To me it's an annoyance. I'll try to edit these out if possible.
Cheers to all, twofthrs
GALES was a child prodigy, heralded as the second coming of Jimi Hendrix, when he released his debut album THE ERIC GALES BAND in 1991 as a 16-year-old on Elektra Records. It was the first of 10 albums on a major label through a blistering career. One of those projects led him to work with producer Fabrizio Grossi (Alice Cooper, Joe Bonamassa, Billy Gibbons, Ice T, Leslie West, Slash, Walter Trout, Steve Lukather), who says, Ive been a fan of Eric since I first worked with him 15 years ago on a project with George Clinton & P.Funk. His tone and his playing was wicked. I know very few musicians with such musicality. Eric is simply Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix love child, thats my story and Im sticking to it.
Recent years have seen an array of musicians also singing the praises of Eric Gales. Dave Navarro (Janes Addiction Red Hot Chili Peppers) exclaimed, How Eric Gales isnt the hugest name in rock guitar is a total mystery.
Talking about the recent accolades, GALES humbly adds, Im grateful to see the recognition in the proper way, unlike times where I was engaged in heavy addiction....
GALES refers to hard time he served at the Shelby County Correction Center in 2009 for possession of drugs and a weapon. While I was in there the officers and guards were like, bro you know this isnt where youre supposed to be. When you get out of here, go take the world by the horns and ride it all the way out. It took a couple of years, but Im here.
This is where MIDDLE OF THE ROAD finds the rebirth of ERIC GALES. He brings in a host of guests and collaborators, but also those closest to him: Lauryn Hill, Gary Clark Jr, Eugene Gales, LaDonna Gales, Lance Lopez, Raphael Saadiq and CHRISTONE KINGFISH INGRAM.
