boombox's notes june 2022:
This was my second time seeing Eric within three months partly because he was so good in March, but also because we were going to get Dom Martin, who was an inspired choice of warm-up act. His 47 minute set of "very relaxed blues and rock" was anything but and went past all too quickly. Showing very little sign of any jetlag, Eric Gales & Co then followed this up with an hour and forty minutes of fine blues and soul. Setlist was pretty much the standard one for the tour, although we didn't get his take on 'Voodoo Chile', which was a pity.
We arrived at the venue just before 1930h, to discover that one, it was a 1930h start and two that it was open seating. This meant I couldn't really pick a decent taping spot. As a result, the recording is a bit boomier than I'd hoped. It was also one of the loudest gigs I've attended recently, meaning I had to undertake very minor clip restoration on the right hand channel. That said, it still came out much better than I'd expected.
Please go out and support the band by buying tickets and merch - both these artists deserve to be playing bigger venues to bigger crowds so that they might earn a living more commensurate with their talent.
