Thanx Eric for allowing us to record!
This was the last show of our road trip to see Eric Steckel again, Musikfest is kind
of a pilgrimage for many in Pennsylvania and beyond, a couple weeks of free music and
that's where our trip ends at Americaplatz in Bethlehem, Pa.
After seeing him perform the last two nights, it's interesting to see what surprises
are in store as he always seems to mix it up a bit .
This was a brand new stage just built for outdoor shows with folding chairs and grass
to throw down a blanket if you want to get comfy, so we set up about 60 feet from center
of stage to record etc, seemed to be just the right spot.
Eric's been leading off the shows with his original "Funky C Funky Do" which sets the pace
for a non stop barrage of great guitar work, and some new songs with some nice vocals. That
said, what's new is his decision to invite some female vocals onstage while he plays key's
adding a degree of maturity to his direction in music.Another example of his growth here is
his take on Bob Dylan's song "I Shall Be Released" which is originally a slow folk song but
Eric's turn on this would make Bob Dylan proud as Hendrix did on " All Along The Watchtower"
Searing emotionally driven guitar here just shows you Eric's starting to spread his wings on
guitar, but most noticeably obvious are the lyrics that speak volumes about his growth as a
musician, at just 22 he's just warming up.
Some great covers at this show, first time i've heard him doing "Lil' Red Rooster" which he
adds into "Dust My Broom" as a medley, also SRV tribute medley, "Scuttle Buttin'/Mary Had A
Little Lamb" as this seems to be a staple at recent shows & it's all good.
Another fantastic outing from Eric Steckel & Co., if you don't know The Eric Steckel Band
and you like great blues/rock guitar then you wanna grab this show.
