boombox's notes december 2021:

Fairport's fourth visit to Acapela was predictably a sell-out. Setlist was the standard one for this rearranged tour, being a mixture of the more recent material and a few standards thrown in for good measure. We had the Ric stand-up slot and Peggy's usual gurning and a fine night was had by all. My two main observations of the night were how frail Gerry is looking these days and Simon's voice wasn't as good as I've heard it, but with most of the band in their 70s and even 'youngsters', Chris and Ric rapidly approaching three score years and ten, they still put on a better show than people half their age.

I was using my new Edirol R-07 for only the second time and committed the schoolboy error of not depressing the record button properly for the second half. As a result, Set 2 is my back-up Edirol HR-09 with its omnidirectional internal mics only, while a matrix of both sources makes up Set 1. However, despite being further back than I'd choose, as the audience was very polite, it still sounds good. Incidentally, the thud you hear in the first set was an over-enthusiastic patron sending a pile of pizza plates flying - if you know the venue, then you'll know their pizzas are an integral part of the visit!

As always, please don't sell this and do please support your favourite acts and venues, so we all have something to look forward to when the current situation improves.
