First Aid Kit was my discovery last year at Hardly Strctly Bluegrass. During
the set I checked my phone to see when they were touring and I noticed tickets
for the Fox Theater show had just gone on sale. I bought them while the band
was playing. I was looking forward to seeing them headline their own show.
This was the first show of a US and European tour. I was able to get in early
and found my favorite spot. The opener Van William was pretty good. Felt bad
for him as he was obviously under the weather which is not the way to start a
long tour. After a short break First Aid Kit came out. They sounded great and
had a great energy. The set was a mixture of new material and older material
with one cover, Heart's Crazy on You mixed in. The crowd was really into the
show and it seemed to take the band by surprise. The response to You Are The
Problem Here was particularly intense with the #MeToo movement and timing of
the gymnastic doctor getting sent away for life. When the set ended my first
thought was going to Portland for the next show. I can only hope they make
another pass through the Bay Area this year. If you get a chance check them out.
