1974-08-09 unknown city, California Motown Records recording __live(?) demo__ (M1-ST)

01. Rescue Me

Total Time ::: 2:39

::: EXC studio recording. Check sample for take it or leave it potential.
::: Warts: none (audio-wise).
::: Doesn't feel like an album out with the AUD noise/mix - maybe an unissued 45?
::: Master reel was in a Motown Records box labeled "Recorded live by Cal Harris".
::: Sounds like a studio recording but perhaps live with boosted/added AUD and/or other overdubs.
::: Seems to be a multi-track mixdown recording.
::: The band signed to Motown Records in '74 & recorded an album which was never issued.
::: Leigh fansite there's a boot with 4 songs from that album (Got Me Now/Lover/Happiness Is Where You Find It/Everything Is Fine). Assuming it's uploadable, could someone please do so?

Recording Information ::: Motown master reel -> 1st generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2015-04-16 ::: 1st generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & speed adjusted (pitched!) for individual recording, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1.65% pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2015-05-23.

Line-up (as labeled on box) ::: Leigh Stephens - electric guitar // George Michalski - piano // Gary Richwine - electric bass, vocals // David Beebe - drums // Pepper Watkins & Don Dunn - background vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 122 ::: Thanks to the original taper & trader! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This one, in my opinion, is a bit like trying to get thru Leigh's "Cast Of Thousands" album - somewhat baffling. This has audience noise super high in the mix, strangely arranged female background vocals & a repetitive, loud bass line. I assume record producers were involved. Whatever the case, this was kept off the market, along with an entire album recorded for Motown by this band which never hit the market. A scintillating but extremely brief lead guitar break from Leigh makes it worth checking out, but you don't need to jam 40 cue tips into yr ears or scratch too much dandruff off yr scalp, wondering... It IS a bit of a mystery. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
