All of us tapers have their bad days. Last night was mine… Tragically, after the third piece played by an electrifying Frank Fairfield on his only appearance in Sydney, my batteries went belly up. The recorder was out of sight, so I didn't realise the problem until I was home. So the rest of the 90-minute set remains in my head.

But better something than nothing, and as there haven't been any live Fairfield gigs up here - maybe ever - I'm seeding these three little gems - 17 minutes in all - in the hopes it might encourage others to follow suit. His playing, his manner, his delight in the music are marvels to behold.
