comments:
This is I believe all but the last 10-20 seconds or so of the
Freddie Hubbard set of 1980 Monterey Jazz Festival. Apparently this
is his 1st appearance there. I don't listen to much Hubbard
but I had this with a John Abercrombie Quartet set I posted
from this same show. Freddie's set followed Abercrombie's in the
broadcast (both together are about 90 minutes) and both are of
nice clean FM master quality so I thought some folks might want
to hear this. Hubbard shows off his smooth trumpet playing in
this set quite well. Not sure who's with him, but if folks like
Freddie Hubbard music I have a couple of others in quality similar
to this one (FM masters of Boston 80 and Ca. 83 New Year's Eve).
For those not familiar, Monterey is a wonderful setting for a
concert of any kind (so I'm often told), and unlike the hugely
popular Monterey Pop Festival which was one and done apparently
because it was way too big an event for the area authorities to
deal with, Monterey Jazz lives on, fortunately, since it is one
of America's greatest jazz festivals. This set differs considerably
in music from the other Freddie show I posted from Boston 1980.
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely, losslessly and gaplessly.
