"San Francisco based jazz fusion band - formed 1977 - who completed demos early in 1978 and went label hunting. Although they recorded several tracks, they never made it past a solid demo stage. Eventually litigation over the tapes resulted in their demise. The band broke up after a final and triumphant performance at the Troubador in Los Angeles when their manager Rod Beatty unfortunately died of an overdose in Mill Valley" (this info. taken from http://www.bay-area-bands.com/bab00009.htm)
Freelight is not at all that Cipollina fans most are used to. This is a pretty mellow jazz band lead by Pam Tillis, Mel's daughter. Still, there are quite a few fine moments where Cipollina is given some freedom to do what he wished.
This recording comes straight from S.K.'s archive of Cipollina recordings. S.K. claims his list that it's 2nd gen SBD, but sounds maybe more generations are afoot, or perhaps it's an AUD. Maybe even both, as this recording has some disorientation issues and a rather messed up mix. However, I left everything the way I received it, and will leave any work to be done by someone who is a pro. or has the time to fix if desired. Still, this is the best quality in it's very very limited circulation.
I dedicate this torrent to the memory of much underrated Jarrett Washington who passed away a year ago.
