Jack's original comments:
I've been lucky this past year to get in touch with a few people who recorded Gentle Giant concerts back in the day and still had the uncirculated master tapes
squirreled away in their closets. Now here's another one I just came across and it's a special one. It was from the band's very first swing through America.
On this date, they played first on a triple bill, before Frampton's Camel and headliner Steve Miller. Because of that, they only got to play a short set of four
numbers, but it's always great to hear a new show recorded while Phil Shulman was still in the band; (he left in January 1973).

It's not a bad sounding show for 1972. All credit should go to the original taper, Craig. He recorded it. He digitized it. He sent it to me. He gave permission to share. I did absolutely nothing to the file I was sent from the taper except for raising the volume a bit and adding track markers.
The thing I most noticed about this show is how quiet and respectful the audience was. That's always a plus on live recordings, isn't it?

original wave file received from taper ->
track markers added with Audacity ->
converted to flac 6 with Trader's Little Helper ->
.md5 created with Trader's Little Helper ->

My thanks go out to the original taper Craig for allowing me access to his cool recording and for giving me permission to share it with other fans and collectors.

Enjoy the show! And feel free to visit me at my "GENTLE GIANT TOUR HISTORY" website at

Goody's additional lineage and notes:
foobar2000 (WAV) > Audition (Pitch Bender, various amounts; Align & center channels; Amplify; some noises removed, repaired or reduced;
split 'Prologue' to create new 'Track 01 - Tuning' and further update other tracking) > TLH (FLAC Level 8; .ffp) > foobar2000 (tags)

Sincerely - many, many thanks (!) to Craig for his fine recording and Jack for posting the brand new GG source upon which this remaster is based.
The speed was quite slow, with the pitch ranging between 63 to 47 cents flat and has been adjusted to bring it back up to the correct speed/pitch.
I've also aligned and centered the tracks, cleaned up several noises and amplified the whole thing.
New track 01 Tuning was split off from the original first track.
Other tracking has been adjusted with some transitions smoothed.
The sound is clear and surprisingly detailed in this excellent short opening set.
