comments:
I recieved this and one other recording in a trade many years ago.
the other recording was the (previously posted) Kinks Detroit 79 show
and both are allegedly 1st gen. from the master cassettes. I don't know this
person well enough to know if they really are 1st gen (both his copies were
on TDK-D cassettes) but I hadn't heard either of those shows before that trade
so they are both not widely circulated. In fact, etree didn't list any 79
George Benson shows (just 78 and 80) whwen this was first posted (now this is
the only listing for 1979 Benson shows) but I'm pretty sure George was on tour
in 1979. Benson toured quite a bit, and at this time featured more of his R & B
poppy soul style of music. I've never been particularly fond of that music, but
Benson has always been a great guitar player, and fortunately he did play alot
of guitar while singing in most of these songs. My favorite George Benson music
goes back to the early 70's, even in the 60's Benson played some very nice music
ranging from jazz to blues to mellow stuff. later he got into alot of "ballads".
If this is really George's most popular era (I can't imagine "Bad Benson or even
the "White Rabbit" tour playing in the Phila. Spectrum!) then many folks should
enjoy this recording, especially since many folks enjoy hearing anything by one
of the greatest and most beloved jazz guitarists in the world.
